Kowa

KOWA spoke cutter

Go to Product feedback

A spoke thread-rolling machine is essential if you build several wheelsets per week. Such a tool significantly reduces the number of spokes you need to keep in stock—you only need lengths in 10 mm increments instead of every 2 mm. In addition, it allows you to prepare spokes to the exact length required for a specific build by accurately measuring the rim ERD and the hub.

Very often, the final spoke length turns out to be an odd number, and in such cases a thread-rolling machine becomes an indispensable tool.

Kowa is one of the best-priced thread-rolling machines on the market, and replacement dies are reasonably priced and do not cost a fortune.

Kowa is one of the best-priced thread-rolling machines on the market, and replacement dies are reasonably priced and do not cost a fortune.

Manufactured in Japan.

The tool operates in two stages:

  1. Cutting the spoke

  2. Rolling a new thread

Spokes can be cut in 0.5 mm increments, with lengths from 50 mm to 300 mm.

Supported thread sizes: 13G and 14G. Importantly, the machine features automatic switching of the dies from 13G to 14G without the need for manual adjustment.

Supported spokes: J-bend and straight-pull. Steel spokes only (cutting aluminum or titanium spokes is prohibited).

I have been using this tool personally for 8 years. Very solid construction and excellent repeatability. I personally recommend it.
