Just a few years ago, breaking the 1000-gram barrier meant accepting significant compromises. Low-profile rims, a minimal spoke count, exotic components, and often solutions that were far from service-friendly.
Today, the situation looks completely different. Thanks to the new generation of Duke Strada rims, ultralight Extralite hubs, and Alpina Hyperlite spokes, it is possible to build a fully functional road wheelset weighing just 947 grams while still using traditional steel spokes. This provides excellent serviceability, proven reliability, and very good lateral stiffness.
